Opulence

The Opulence series (2011) explores the language of flowers through sumptuous colour and sculptural impasto paint. Published during the Victorian era floriography dictionaries assigned meanings to flowers and plants which were used to send secret messages, I’ve continued the narrative by bringing new symbols and associations to this bygone language. Each work is painted with a palette knife, creating beautifully faceted paint surfaces.

The Opulence series is at home in both modern and traditional architectural settings and includes a number of distinct collections, including the Gondwana collection which reflects on the challenges of climate change as seen in the 2020 Australian bush fires.

Opulence Gallery

Floriography combines with sculptural impasto in my Opulence series. The below gallery shows a sample of these works. All paintings are acrylic on canvas or board.
