Impressions Collection
My vision for the Impressions Collection was to bring the beauty of painterly gardens and sunlit flowerbeds indoors for all seasons! I approached painting the collection as if I were taking a leisurely walk in the park. The first and largest paintings capture my initial impressions of the garden landscape. Featuring sky, trees, grassy fields, and garden borders these works transport you into a lush garden of vibrant colour and texture. The next impressions of my walk focused on the smaller details, transitioning from ‘A Walk in the Park’ to ‘A Closer View,’ where the flowerbed takes centre stage in the composition while the larger landscape fades into the background.
The final impressions belong to the flowerbeds, with mixed borders ‘Splendour’ and ‘Mixed Border’ bringing a loose abstract approach. The large ‘Among the Flowers’ provides an immersive viewpoint of the flowers, along with the more intimate works ‘Bee’s View’ and ‘Butterfly View’. All the paintings in the collection are painted with sculptural impasto paint that provides rich colour and texture. The garden inspiration for these works draws from photographs I’ve taken in gardens within New Zealand and abroad – with my constant muse being Pukekura Park where I’m often found taking a walk in the park.
You can view some of the inspiration here. I hope you enjoy this sneak peek of some of the works in the collection. The collection catalogue will be emailed to subscribers on Saturday 1st June.
