Meet The Artist

Working as an artist for over 25 years, my paintings are recognised for their sculptural impasto and vibrant colour. Born and raised in Wellington, I completed my teacher training at Wellington College of Education, majoring in art. A move to Taranaki followed, where teaching allowed me to take my passion for the arts into the classroom. During this time, I also regularly taught art extension classes for children and adults in a variety of media.

The view outside my home studio inspired the Pacifica series, which celebrates the native plants and pristine coastlines of Aotearoa. Large gardenscapes are the subject of my Lush series, depicting the magnificent public gardens nearby including Pukeiti and Pukekura park. My latest series, Evoke, is characterised by its evocative and expressive florals, as well as a shift towards abstraction. Through my explorations of paint, my work is continually evolving; it is an exciting medium that offers limitless possibilities.

Colour & Texture

Colour is always the starting point of my paintings, with texture a close companion. I enjoy building layers and sculpting the paint to create movement and dimension.

Floral motifs move energetically across the canvas in my popular Opulence series, with loose painterly forms that draw upon the symbolism and language of flowers. These works are produced with vibrant impasto, which adds to the visual experience as light bounces and changes over the glossy paint surface.

My studio is open by appointment, please contact me if you would like to visit.
